Schill Grounds Management has acquired Strauser Nature’s Helpers to expand in eastern Pennsylvania and parts of New York and New Jersey.

Locally owned and operated by Zech Strauser since 1998, Strauser Nature’s Helpers specializes in sustainable landscaping, lawn care, and snow removal for commercial clients including multi-family complexes, retail, hospitality, government, student housing, and resort properties in the Poconos, Lehigh Valley, and Lancaster among other areas.

Combining with Strauser extends Schill’s reach further east into Pennsylvania around the Philadelphia area, as well as parts of northwestern New York and New Jersey. Strauser has about 75 employees who are becoming part of the Schill family.

“We have been longtime admirers of Zech’s work in growing Strauser Nature’s Helpers into a premier provider of landscaping services and snow and ice removal in Eastern Pennsylvania and beyond,” said Jerry Schill, CEO of Schill Grounds Management and founder of the company 30 years ago.

Adding Strauser Nature’s Helpers to the Schill family, along with the recent acquisition of BAM Outdoor Inc., brings the company to about 1,200 employees as Schill has grown to become one of the largest commercial landscaping and snow and ice removal companies in the country.

“We are thrilled to partner with Schill and become part of an organization that also prioritizes growing careers, sustainability, responsible resource management, and superior customer service,” said Strauser. “Joining the Schill family delivers greater value for customers. I also believe we will advance our mission to help the Strauser team meet their personal and professional goals well into the future.”

Schill continues to grow organically throughout the upper Midwest and mid-Atlantic regions, as well as through acquisitions.

Since 2020, Schill has made 12 acquisitions as it drives consolidation in the fragmented industry of commercial landscape management and snow and ice removal services. Schill is developing an “owner’s network” model that keeps former owners closely involved in running the business while providing strategic recommendations and sharing best practices among the Schill group of companies.

The addition of Strauser complements Schill’s previous acquisitions, which include:

  • BAM Outdoor, Inc. in the Indianapolis area
  • Enviroscapes in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia
  • Fredericks Landscaping in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky
  • GrassCor in Cincinnati and Dayton
  • Grounds Elite in Cincinnati
  • McCoy Landscape Services in Columbus and Marion
  • Ohio Valley Group in Cleveland
  • TLC in London, Ontario
  • Ward + Thornton Landscapes in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky

Schill Grounds Management is a leading provider of year-round landscaping and snow and ice removal services for multi-family, retail, office, mixed-use, distribution centers, healthcare and industrial properties of all sizes located in the Upper Midwest.  The Company, which is headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, was founded in 1993 by Jerry Schill, who still serves as the Company’s President and CEO.  Over the last three decades, Schill has grown to 25 branches and services over four thousand properties across Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Indiana, West Virginia and Canada. In 2020, Argonne Capital Group, LLC made a majority investment in Schill as part of a strategic plan to consolidate the fragmented commercial landscaping industry.
